On Thursday 17 October 2024, the winners of the first Biodiverse Front Gardens and Balconies Competition were announced at an award ceremony at the Ealing Council head office in Perceval House.
The atmosphere was one of celebration and excitement, with prize winners learning about the incredible biodiversity being nurtured throughout the borough. It was a truly heart warming event, showcasing the pride and passion of gardeners young, and not so young, including the children and their support networks from our prize winning schools. Inspiring the next generation of gardeners is a wonderful way to nurture a connection to nature that can last a lifetime. The excitement we witnessed will surely sow the seeds for a lifelong love of gardening.Â
Paul Carter of Cultivating Ealing was an excellent compere for the evening. He shared the inspiring stories behind the entries, including one proud front garden winner who had completely replaced her front garden concrete with a stunning haven for plants, flowers and biodiversity. Another entrant had discovered the power of nature by letting an old outdoor mat transform into a wild plant micro-meadow.Â
Ealing Mayor, Cllr. Yvonne Johnson was delighted to present the awards and certificates to our 2024 winners, who are listed below.Â
Councillor Paul Driscoll, Cabinet Member for Climate Action spoke of the importance of communities across the borough coming together to tackle climate change and boost biodiversity.
